The Saskatchewan Beekeepers’ Development Commission and the Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture are pleased to offer the Beginners Beekeeping Certificate Course encompassing four virtual sessions that will provide you with the basic knowledge to successfully set up and manage a honey bee colony. One additional hands on session on field practices and open discussion is included. Instructors include Mr. Geoff Wilson – Provincial Specialist in Apiculture, Mr. Graham Parsons – Biosecurity Specialist, Dr. Medhat Nasr – Saskatchewan Beekeepers’ Development Commission Lead Researcher, and Simon Lalonde – Commercial Beekeeper and Director of Saskatchewan Beekeepers Development Commission. All experience levels are welcome!
Workshop lessons include:
· Basic bee biology
· Standard beekeeping equipment
· Honey bee colony assessments
· Seasonal beekeeping responsibilities
· Extracting/ processing honey
· Disease and pest; diagnoses and management practices
· What could go wrong as a Bee-Ginner beekeeper?
Dates & Times
The course sessions will be held every Tuesday (6:30 to 9:00 p.m. Mountain Standard Time), Every week starting May 11, 2021 and ending June 1st, 2021. The hands on session will be offered on June 12th, 2021. Classes are offered via zoom.
Fee: $150.00. per person and includes cost of a manual on: “Honey Bee Disease and Pests 3rd Edition”
