Quality Queen Rearing Short Course

  • May 16, 2023 (Virtual instruction: 6:30 pm-9:30 pm)
  • May 26, 2023. (In person in the field: 9:00 am- 4:30 pm)

This class is limited to only 15 students and typically fills up quickly!
This course is designed for those who want to learn how to rear honey bee queens or improve their skills for producing quality queens. This is a 2-day course. In the first day virtual instructions will be offered to learn about queen and drone biology, principles for rearing quality queens, preparations of cell builders and mating nuclei, selection of breeder bee queens and record keeping. The second day will be in the field to practice what you learned including setting up queen cell builders, nucs, preparing cell cups, grafting, breeding and selection quality bees. Everyone will have a chance to try grafting larvae and raising their own queens.

Pre-requisite: Minimum two years of beekeeping experience.

Course Fee: the cost for the two days course is $225.00 which includes, a copy of “Queen Rearing Essentials” by Dr. Lawrence John Connor, lunch during the field day, and refreshments.
